Wood is an exceptionally noble material that, like no other, allows for the creation of a cozy interior. Floorboard – a wide selection of various patterns and colors

The most popular ways to lay boards are:
  • classic long plank – boards of varying lengths laid parallel along the longer edge, with irregular joints
  • classic herringbone/classic parquet – shorter staves laid at a 90-degree angle
  • French/Hungarian herringbone – staves with a characteristic cut at a 45 or 60-degree angle, creating regular stripes on the floor after installation
The way the floor is laid will have a significant impact on the final look of the interior. Therefore, before making a decision, it is worth viewing several projects to ensure the floor matches the overall visual concept.

Which floorboard is best? A few words about selection grades.

The chosen selection grade will have a major impact on the final appearance of the floor. This is simply the sorting of floorboards based on the number of knots, grain pattern, and the presence of discoloration or sapwood. Importantly, a given grade refers only to the visual aspect; a lower grade does not mean a lower quality board.

Each manufacturer has its own classification, but we usually distinguish the following grades:

  • Grade 1 Natur – the most color-uniform floor, knot-free or with very small knots
  • Grade 2 Rustic – a more diverse floor, more knots; missing knots are filled with putty
  • Grade 3 Country – numerous knots with a larger diameter; edge sapwood is often permissible

If you are wondering which floorboards will be the best choice, it’s hard to give a single answer. It depends on taste as well as the character and style of the interior. In modern arrangements, the Natur grade works better, while in a Modern Farmhouse style, the Country grade may be a good choice.

How much does a floorboard cost?
The selection grades described above will mainly determine the price of the floor. The rule is: the higher the grade, the higher the price per m². Other criteria that determine the final cost are the width of the board and the installation pattern. Solid or engineered floorboard?
Solid boards are made of noble wood throughout their entire cross-section (usually oak). Their thickness ranges from 15 to 22mm. The biggest advantage of such boards is the possibility of multiple renovations (sanding). Engineered boards consist of several layers. The upper part is a veneer (noble wood) 3 to 6mm thick, while the base is plywood or wooden lamellas laid transversely. This construction increases dimensional stability and is the most common choice for underfloor heating.

Oiled or lacquered floorboard?
Lacquered floorboards are highly resistant to staining, as the lacquer forms a tight barrier. It is easier to use as it requires no additional maintenance beyond cleaning. Oiled floors look more natural. They are also water-resistant thanks to a wax layer, but this wears off over time, requiring the application of maintenance oil (on average twice a year). A major advantage of oil-wax is the possibility of spot repairs without renovating the entire floor.
